Koh Chang is the 3rd largest island of Thailand after Phuket and Samui. It is located southeast of Bangkok towards the Cambodian border and is less popular to tourists and travelers; but that doesn’t mean it is a great place to visit. The island is set up to be a paradise for tourists. Bungalows, resorts and hostels are everywhere and there are of cafes and restaurants to eat at. I found myself wondering how they all stayed in business which made me hypothesize that if they are still kicking then the high season must very popular and busy.
1. White Sand Beach
On the island there are many beaches to explore. The first beach is “White Sand Beach”. This is the busiest beach since it is the closest to the ferry port.
2. Pearl Beach
3. Chai Chet Beach
and
4. Klong Prao Beach
are the next three beaches but we didn’t really explore those.
5. Kai Bay Beach
After the first 4 there is Kai Bay Beach, which was my favorite. This beach is extremely long. The more touristy section of the beach is where the shops and restaurants are but if you stop right after the town, coming from the ferry, you can find my favorite spot of the trip.
SIDE NOTE: In Thailand Porn is actually a popular Thai name. A man named Porn opened up a bungalow resort right along the beach and this is the spot to remember. The bungalows also have a small homemade mosque for muslim prayer if that is something you have to consider when traveling.
Anyways, to get to the beach spot you look for the sign that says Porn’s Bungalows This Way. Follow the signs to the restaurant and then park your bike by the restaurant and walk onto the beach right in front and wha-la! The beach is breathtaking! The water is warm and shallow so you can essentially walk out almost halfway to a nearby island before you can no longer touch. If you want to go to the island you can rent a kayak, Porn rents kayaks for 100 baht ($3) an hour, and paddle over, which I would definitely recommend doing.
6. Lonely Beach
After Kai Bay Beach comes Lonely Beach, which is where the parties happen. Lonely Beach is where hostels are located and the small but active nightlife occurs. If you are traveling alone I would recommend staying here so you can meet more people. Then if it is too much you can always switch beaches and stay where we were: Bang Bao Beach.
7. Bang Bao Beach
Bang Bao Beach is mainly the fishing port of the island but it also has little coves that are nice to relax and swim at . Our Bungalow was located along one of these little coves so we could watch the fisherman coming back in the morning but also enjoy the quiet beaches for relaxation.

Just to fill in the gaps . .Pearl beach, doesn’t have an actual beach – just a rocky shoreline. So you didn’t miss anything there. 🙂
But Klong Prao beach ( including the northern end at Chai Chet is the longest beach on the island and even in high season you can find a quiet spot. Plus it’s good for people who like a long walk or morning run on the beach.
